a friend of mine at work was talking to me about considering a vegan lifestyle but was worried about giving up her great love of ice cream. so i've been thinking of a few easy, vegan recipes for frozen treats. making sorbet from fruit juice takes about ten minutes from start to finish.
you will need:
one cup of fruit juice
12-20 ice cubes
2 tbsp. salt
2 ziploc bags, one larger than the other
pour the juice into the smaller ziploc bag and squeeze out the air. make sure the seal is tight and place into the larger ziploc bag. fill the larger bag with ice and salt and squeeze out the air. wrap the plastic bag in a dishtowel and shake for about 5 minutes, until the juice has frozen. enjoy!

i found a white crochet monokini for about $20 from an ebay wholesaler. how do you think i should dye it?
i already know that i'm planning on tea or coffee dyeing the swimsuit below so that it's not such a flat white but after seeing a few pictures of an ombre monokini, i'm wondering if i should strive for a similar look while i'm dyeing, using both tea and coffee staining to create an ombre gradation.

one of the monokinis i bought is black, and is staying that way, but the other is white and i'm planning on either coffee or tea dyeing it to a warmer, off-white/pale brownish color. or giving it an ombre gradation. i can't decide!

crochet monokini (via shopplanetblue) i found a black version of this swimsuit and can't wait until i get it. i like that the midriff crochet is minimal - i think massive amounts of black crochet is a little too much on some of the swimsuits. |

a few weeks ago i found a gigantic lace tank at a thrift store, threw it into my "to-do" basket, and forgot about it. while i was watching scream the other night i couldn't believe how awesome tatum riley (rose mcgowan) looked in her collection of cropped tee-shirts. so i hemmed a few inches off of the bottom and took in another few off of the sides to make a cropped lace tank. i also found these great black denim shorts for a few dollars the other day. i can't believe how perfectly they fit.
the cinnamon peeler x michael ondaatje
If I were a cinnamon peeler, I would ride your bed and leave the yellow bark dust on your pillow. Your breasts and shoulders would reek, you could never walk through markets without the profession of my fingers floating over you. The blind would stumble certain of whom they approached though you might bathe under rain gutters, monsoon. Here on the upper thigh at this smooth pasture neighbor to your hair or the crease that cuts your back. This ankle. You will be known among strangers as the cinnamon peeler’s wife. I could hardly glance at you before marriage, never touch you — your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers. I buried my hands in saffron, disguised them over smoking tar, helped the honey gatherers…
When we swam once, I touched you in water and our bodies remained free, you could hold me and be blind of smell. You climbed the bank and said this is how you touch other women: the grasscutter’s wife, the lime burner’s daughter. And you searched your arms for the missing perfume and knew what good is it to be the lime burner’s daughter left with no trace as if not spoken to in an act of love as if wounded without the pleasure of scar.
You touched your belly to my hands in the dry air and said “I am the cinnamon peeler’s wife. Smell me.

i still love you s/s 2011
patrick recently worked on shooting a lookbook (with a production video that's still being edited) for carrie morrissey's spring 2011 looks for i still love you. she's been releasing a few images at a time and they look great so far!
i love the sheer and opaque silk button downs, the new white version of her lacy bike shorts, and especially the faux thigh high stirrup leggings (patrick got a pair for me!). carrie and tina really did great styling because i love the turbans, especially in the top two images, and i've been pretty against the idea until i saw these pictures (also because last time i dyed my hair, my roommates informed me that i looked like professor quirrell with my hair wrapped up).
the messy wrapping with hair peeking out is a great idea for girls like me who don't like or can't pull off the normal all-your-hair-pulled-up wrap. i can't wait to see the rest of the looks as they are released! check out brain gravy creative's blog and i love you nonetheless for more.

Sunday
i've been wanting a pair of feather earrings so badly. generally i'm the sort of person who has a hard time buying something that i think i could easily make myself for half the price. but honestly, half of the time i just don't get around to making whatever i think would be so cheap and simple. but i had an entire weekend to myself and thought that making earrings would be something fun to do while waiting for bread to rise. so i bought a package of earrings, some waxed cotton cord, silver chain, beads, and feathers. altogether it cost maybe $20, which is generally the price per pair of feather earrings. i made four pairs and i still have a ton of beads, earrings, cord, and feathers - enough that i could probably make sixty more pairs.

destino is a short animated cartoon released in 2003 by The Walt Disney Company. its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its eventual completion. The project was a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dalí. these six and a half minutes helped me understand Dalí's work more than any class i'd ever taken.
freckle face
when i was younger, i hated my freckles. my mother would always promise me that they would fade when i was older and that i'd miss them. she'd say "they'll fade by the time you're in high school". and then it was "they'll have faded when you head off to college". once i graduated college she said, "well, it looks like you're stuck with 'em."
and so i've been trying harder to be okay with them. don't get me wrong - i love freckles. i think they're unbelievably cute. i like them on everyone, but i just don't like them on me. my friend liz even named my biggest freckle after herself so that i couldn't hate it. it's something that i'm just working at coming to terms with.
